A Swedish fashion tycoon is taking legal action against a gambling company. The founder of Odd Molly, Per Holknekt, has initiated legal proceedings in the Stockholm District Court. He is seeking 10 million Swedish kronor in compensation from the Swedish gambling operator, Kindred.

Holknekt has been grappling with a gambling habit for a considerable period and contends that Kindred’s operator, Unibet, should have recognized his predicament and taken preventative steps.

During his 15-year struggle with his addiction, Holknekt claims he has wagered a total of 55 million Swedish kronor, losing 26 million Swedish kronor at Unibet alone.

Holknekt told iGB that he acknowledges that each game he participated in was his own decision, but his dependence was still taken advantage of by the operator.

Holknekt told iGB that he is certain of prevailing in the case.

“We are confident in the process because we have a professional data analysis team (thanks to GDPR), strong legal partners, and a significant number of witnesses and informants from within and outside Kindred Group and Kambi,” he stated.

“The evidence we currently possess is sufficient, but we will continue to work diligently to bolster it.”

Holknekt clarified that Kambi, which provides sports betting solutions for Kindred, is not the target of the lawsuit.

“Hopefully this will be a prolonged process, and time will be on the side of our legal, public relations, and analysts.”

This situation will establish a pattern for numerous other cases. It is hoped that it will direct individuals towards a sustainable form of gambling that is both environmentally friendly and compassionate.

Holknekt is a renowned activist in Sweden who opposes the gambling industry. He is recognized for his criticism of the gambling sector.

Kindred’s communications director, Jamie Abbey, acknowledged the reports of the lawsuit but did not provide further details.

“We are aware of the media reports and have no further comment at this moment,” Abbey stated.

Kindred recently published its financial report for the second quarter, which revealed a substantial decrease in income due to the company’s temporary withdrawal from the Dutch online gambling market.

The company is also currently investigating a potential sale under pressure from the activist investor Corvex Management.
