The Bluegrass State is on the verge of joining the ranks of states with legal sports wagering. A measure that would authorize sports betting in Kentucky has cleared a legislative panel and is poised for a vote in the state’s lower chamber.
This legislation, titled “An Act Pertaining to Gaming and Appropriations,” was proposed by Representative Michael Meredith and has garnered the backing of fifteen fellow lawmakers. It would enable Kentucky’s racetracks to collaborate with operators to provide both in-person and digital sports betting. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission would be tasked with overseeing this industry.
The proposal has attracted bipartisan support, mirroring the escalating popularity of sports betting across the United States, particularly in states with a robust racing heritage like Kentucky.
The bill is anticipated to be put to a vote in the House today. If it receives approval, it will then proceed to the Senate for deliberation.
