The gaming regulator in New South Wales, Australia has publicly supported Helen Coonan to continue as head of Crown Resorts. They believe her ongoing direction is critical for the struggling casino company.
ILGA head Philip Crawford emphasized Coonan’s significance during this volatile time. “I require her to remain,” he declared, highlighting that Crown is in “emergency response” mode. He conveyed comfort in having Coonan as a direct contact, adding, “If she departed, I wouldn’t know who to call.” Crawford also stated unequivocally that he thinks Crown board member, Harold Mitchell, should resign.
This comes after a shocking report by retired judge Patricia Bergin, who spearheaded an investigation into accusations of illicit finance activities at Crown casinos. The investigation’s conclusions compelled Crown to delay the launch of its new $2.2 billion Sydney casino. In a financial results announcement earlier this year, Coonan conceded she couldn’t give a firm start date for the Barangaroo casino but indicated there might be greater certainty by April.
Coonan has guaranteed the public that she is collaborating closely with the New South Wales gaming overseer to have Crown’s permit reinstated. While no ultimate choices have been reached, she stressed that they are proceeding as rapidly as feasible.
Coonan contends that the commissioner views her as the appropriate individual to guide Crown back on track and is completely dedicated to enacting the essential changes.
She did remark, though, that her tenure on the board would be finite as the company is seeking a new chief executive officer.
